Third Policy Slam event takes place
Policy Slam is great when large numbers of people want to come together and agree a position from among several options. They might be deciding for themselves, or responding to someone else's consultation. It works well at events like an organisation's annual conference.
The third Policy Slam event, with about sixty people, took place on 15th July, at the University of Gloucestershire. It was part of an annual summer school for people involved with local councils, particularly as clerks, on the overall topic of “Power to the People: Can local communities be trusted to deliver?” The topic of the Policy Slam was, "How much power should local councils (parish and town councils) have in the 21st century?"
The Policy Slam method worked extremely well. There was an initial consensus vote on six pre-prepared options. Discussion of this led to the initial six options reducing to three. There was further overlap between the two options that come top in the second vote, which there was not time to explore
